I believe physical and mental health are deeply intertwined. You can’t separate one from the other, and each affects the other.
Living with chronic illness or disability can be exhausting in ways other people don’t always see. Able-bodied people, and those who haven’t been through significant illness, sometimes struggle to know how to support you. Out of frustration that they can’t “fix” things, they may say things that feel dismissive or even hurtful.
Does this sound familiar?
- You’re grieving the life, body, or plans you had before
- Pain, fatigue, or flares affect your mood, and your mood affects your symptoms
- You’ve felt dismissed or not believed by medical providers
- Your relationships or roles have shifted, and you or your partner feel the strain
- You’re tired of explaining yourself, or of pushing through to prove you’re “fine”
Lived experience
I live with chronic illness and a visible disability myself, so I bring a personal understanding to this work. I work with individuals and couples affected by chronic illness and disability, including chronic pain, diabetes, and other ongoing health conditions.
How therapy with me helps
My goal is to help you reach the highest level of emotional, physical, and social well-being that’s possible for you. Part of that is helping you advocate for yourself and build healthy interdependence: a support system for the things you can’t, or would rather not, do alone. At the same time, we’ll find self-care habits that actually fit your body and your energy.
Therapy that works with your body
My office is in an accessible building, and telehealth is always an option, including on flare days. If you need an accommodation, just ask. You never need to explain why.
