Religious Trauma

Some people grow up in a high-demand, high-control environment where thinking critically or asking deep questions was discouraged. That environment may have been based in a religious belief system, a church, or a family’s interpretation of faith.

I work with people who are now asking questions and searching for answers as they figure out what they believe and how they want to relate to the people and communities who didn’t give them space to think or ask questions.

Does this sound familiar?

  • You feel guilt or shame that doesn’t match what you’ve actually done
  • Fear of punishment, or of getting things “wrong,” still follows you
  • It’s hard to trust your own judgment, feelings, or body
  • You’ve lost a community, or relationships with family feel strained
  • You carry messages about sexuality, gender, or your body that still hurt

How I work with religious trauma

I don’t have an agenda for where you end up. Some people keep their faith, some reshape it, and some leave it behind. My role is to help you untangle what you were taught from who you are, so you can choose for yourself.

We’ll work with the parts of you that still carry old rules and fears, with curiosity instead of judgment, and at a pace that feels safe.
